Europe
Here you will find journal articles from travels to spots all over Europe. As the days pass more and more will be added, so make sure you check back often to see the new, beautiful places we visit.
Paris, France
July 20th-24th, 2007
The first day was spent on the train from Lausanne, Switzerland to Paris. We had a bit of coordination issues at both ends, but got to the destination as planned, so no need to fuss. Arriving in Paris’ North Station was pretty easy and then just getting a taxi to the hotel.
Munich, Germany
April 27-29, 2007
Today I am off to Munich, Germany for the weekend to check out some night clubs and maybe a museum or something. The airport was super cool in Geneva. There were elevators everywhere and it was all very accessible, even the restrooms. There was actually one check-in desk that was for assistive only and as usual, no checked bags for me. I am just carrying my new Kelty (www.kelty.com) daypack. This time Lufthansa (www.Lufthansa.com) gets the flight from Geneva to Munich on an Avro RJ-85 jet. This is just a tiny plane seating only 18 people. Security is easy and fast as they bring me through a special line with private screening rooms for a really quick pat down and I am off. There was a bus to the plane accessible by a short ramp. Then the cabin of the bus lifts to become the lift to the plane. Very cool! It comes in the opposite side of the jet way and an aisle chair as usual to get in the plane but, without crazy straps. I just got in the chair and they just said hold on. The staff was very helpful and polite, and English speaking as well. The flight attendants were another story...
London, United Kingdom
July 24th – 29th , 2007
In continuing our trip further out, my buddy Jim and I took a train from Paris under the English Channel to the center of London. The train ride was awesome and going through the tunnel under the water of the English Channel. A few coordination issues with the lifts and such but nothing too drastic-- nothing I can’t get past.
Interlaken, Switzerland
June 9-10, 2007
Today my buddy Jim and I decided to take a drive up from Lutry to Interlaken, Switzerland for an over-night trip. We packed our bags and jumped in the BMW X3 and headed up north. The drive up was great. The roads in Switzerland are really quite nice and not much traffic at all on the freeways. Coming into the city was breath-taking! Interlaken is its namesake being right in a picturesque valley on a little strip of land. Jim got a room at the Victoria JungFrau Hotel right in Interlaken (www.victoria-jungfrau.ch). This was a very elegant hotel right downtown, built in 1865, and has been host for many different famous people over the years like, during the Second World War the hotel was used by the Swiss Army Chief of Staff, General Henri Guisan as his headquarters.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Aug. 3 - 17, 2007
Took the SBB train (www.sbb.ch) from Lausanne, Switzerland to Copenhagen, Denmark and it was so easy to get on. They had everything waiting for me because I had called the day before to make sure they had the ramp ready. First stop was Basel, Switzerland and it was an easy change to the next train. I had to do it fast though, 15 minute connection straight from one train to the next. The workers there quickly transferred me and sent me on my way again.
