Cirque du Soleil Dralion
April 10th, 2009
Last night I had the pleasure of seeing the Cirque du Soleil show “Dralion” in Melbourne, Australia and it was without a doubt one of the most fantastic shows I have ever seen! I have wanted to see their show live and after seeing so many of the others on video and I have to say it is even more stunning and spectacular in person.
I have always been in sports and seen athletes at their top physical condition and yet the Cirque du Soleil performers really represent a level of dedication and the true showing of what the human body is really capable of. Whether they are jumping and tumbling through hoops, juggling, or flying through the air on fabric streamers, what these people are capable of really sets the bar high for others to follow. And, on top of all of that, it is all set in vivid color and wonderful music. The art of it all is breathtaking!
Now, some of it could have been from just the vantage point of our amazing seats. The wheelchair seating under the tent is right up against the stage and the floor of it was elevated to about eye level with us. It was so effortless getting to our seats and with the help of the great ushers this was one of the easiest shows I have done to date. And it will be pretty tough to beat. Even the price was easy on the pocketbook. The normal price for a seat was $75.00 AUD, labeled “escort”, and for the wheelchair seats it was half price at $37.50 AUD. Seems odd to me to pay half price for the best seats in the house, but I’ll take it.
“Having gone to the ends of the earth and rubbed shoulders with the peoples of every continent, Cirque du Soleil is celebrating the meeting of East and West, of the past and the future, under the big top.
Our artists and the other wonder-workers invite you to encounter fabulous characters, to marvel at breathtaking prowess, and to be carries away by legendary visions.
May the mythical images of yesterday and tomorrow flash before your eyes, may the music and rhythms of centuries past burst forth, may the forces and the elements be unleashed… Enter the universe of Dralion. Enjoy the show!” – Taken from the show’s program –
For the show Dralion, the acts were about the different cultures from across the globe. Places like Africa and China and many places in between. With tumblers on trampolines bonding on a backdrop, people jumping through rings and flying through the air this was a fantastic show. I cannot say enough about it. In fact, I won’t say too much because you have to see it for yourself, in person.
Cirque and their organizers also do a lot for charities and bringing clean water to places all over the map. Check out their website for more information (www.cirquedusoleil.com).
