Topolino Technology Carbon Core WX2.5 Wheel
I recently received a set of wheels brand new to the wheelchair market from Topolino, dubbed the Carbon Core WX2.5. Topolino has been making high end bicycle racing wheels for over 10 years now and wanted to share their knowledge and technology with wheelchair users all over.
So far, I have had these wheels on my chair for a solid 6 months of “normal” use. I do consider pushing all over the “Mall” area of Washington D.C. and hopping up and down curbs “normal”.
To date, these wheels have exceeded my expectations. The 20% weight savings over even a Spinergy LX is very noticeable, and the higher stiffness of the WX2.5’s makes for a considerably easier push. With the added stiffness more of the energy you put into your push goes directly into the movement of the wheel and not lost in flex. The same concept makes the huge difference between a folding frame chair and a rigid frame. Of course, with a more rigid wheel comes a bit harsher of a ride over bumps. But you won’t get a Cadillac ride from a Corvette, now would you? It is the price you pay for performance.
Right now they have the 559 (26”) and 540 (25") sizes but they are finishing up the details on other sizes to come, and even handcycle wheels here very soon. Also, Topolino has released there red color scheme as well as the yellow Carbon Cores. Now, as soon as the engineers at Topolino can have a sit down with the master minds at D’s Locks to mate their Hub Lock rings to these new wheels, I will be a very happy camper!
A good looking, cool new wheel that is light as… I give them 2 thumbs up!!! Check out www.topolinotech.com for more information.
