Amovida Motion Cushions
Recently a good friend of mine sent me a new cushion from Amovida to test out. He sent me a couple of the different sizes of the Motion Comfort + (AV500) and the Motion (AV400) Adjustable cushions. The primary difference being that the Motion Comfort + cushion had a different type of gel in the insert that helped to regulate body temperature. I am always up for trying something new, so I gave them a shot.
At first glance, I dig the color and design. The black upper and lower sections are nice and the bright green accents are fun. The Motion Comfort + has a white band around the middle, where as the Motion has a dark grey band. Both use the same fabrics and foam padding inside, with a gel insert over the top. Each of them came with 4 pie-shaped gel “adjusters” to place inside the cushion to give you options to help positioning and posture. Also, with the foam and gel combination I felt very stable in my chair.
Another plus with both of these cushions is the top layer of fabric that you actually sit on has a sort of rough texture that seems to hold you from sliding around on it too much. It isn’t enough to cause any sort of skin irritation, but seems to grab you by the seat of your pants, literally. When I would spasm or start to slouch, it help me from slipping around. Even bare skinned coming in and out of the shower I noticed I sat very secure and never had any problems with the roughness on my skin. The first couple days I used the cushions I noticed that my spasms went right away and my posture was considerably better sitting in my chair. For some reason, over the next couple weeks of using that cushion my spasms seemed to come back. I am not blaming the cushion, but I am still not sure what caused them to return and with a vengeance. I will take my time with these cushions and figure it all out and get back to you on that.
The Amovida cushions were a bit heavier than my Supracor Contour cushions and didn’t have the cool pouch sewn into the front of them like Supracor, but those were the only flaws I could find in these cool new cushions. I didn’t notice the temperature control that the Motion Comfort + claims, but that is another part of the test I will see in time. Cold, snowy days are in my near future and that will be a good test of the gel, for sure.
I am not sure of the pricing yet on these cushions as they are new to the U.S., but I will update as the info comes to me. If you would like more information, check out www.amovida.com.
