The Freedom Ryder LC-1 is a great entry-level bike. With Freedom Ryder’s “Body Lean Steer” pivot system it is a very comfortable and easy bike to ride. The lean steering helps keep the cranks in front of you for more powerful cranking in turns. And also gives you more stability in the corners as you turn. The lean steer-style does get a bit wobbly at higher speeds, though, so be careful.

The backrest incline is non-adjustable and sits you very upright. This is a good thing for the beach and bike trail cruises, but makes you a big wall and is not so good for aerodynamics. The upright position also puts you rather close to the gears, which can feel a little uncomfortable for some. There is a good amount of adjustability in the crank position and also in the foot loops to help get you in the right position and fit different people’s leg lengths.

Just like the other Freedom Ryder bikes, the LC-1 is also very upgradable in the wheels, cranks and brakes. This also makes it easy to buy repair and replacement parts at any bicycle store. And Freedom Ryder offers many upgrades and options right from the factory even beyond their high end standard features, like: Avid disc brakes, Mavic wheels and Continental Gran Prix tires. Also, like the FRH-1, the LC-1 has the bent cable bracket and is very quick to snap. I recommend changing this out to a normal brake cable and mount to avoid it breaking and cutting the cable.

The LC-1 uses a 4130 chrome-moly frame that is very strong and can take a lot of abuse. It is a bit heavy but you only notice that when you try to lift the bike into a vehicle or just try to pick it up to move it. On the road it is still very quick. I did notice a bit of flex in the frame during tough uphill climbs, but not enough to really cause any problems.

Freedom Ryder has done quite well with this bike. I give it two thumbs up for the weekend warrior that wants to go out and ride with friends or family. If you would like more information please check out www.freedomryder.com.
